Creating a Project Management Charter

Q: Should I always create a Project Management Charter document, or is this an optional project management activity?

A: No, you should always create a project charter document for every project you undertake. The charter is the most important document in the project management life cycle, as it sets out the vision, objectives, and scope of the project, as well as the deliverables and the general plan of attack. Without it, you will lack a clear definition of the project and will need to manage your project delivery very carefully to deliver your project on time and within budget. Besides, without a Project Management Charter, how will you know when your project is complete ?
